ME (Mobile/Evolution)
Dance, trapeze and crutches – the exceptional Scottish artist Claire Cunningham brings together elements that generally do not belong together and combines two poetically artistic dance solos in the double feature ME (Mobile/Evolution). The 35-minute solo «Mobile» is inspired by the works of the American sculptor Alexander Calder, the inventor of «mobiles». It is a work filled with stories all based around crutches – stories which hang on crutches, balance on crutches, swing on crutches and spin on crutches, so to speak. The 17-minute solo «Evolution» tells the story of Claire Cunningham's journey to dance alongside the story of the medical interventions that she has experienced throughout her life. Conventions about virtuosity, classical aesthetics and dance are questioned in her work with typically British humour. (Performance in English)
