ESPACE SCHENGEN
Politically and economically, Switzerland assigns people who live here without a Swiss passport to different conceptual categories: foreigners, Germans, expats. What interests lie behind the linguistic categorisation, from refugee to tax exile? What does this categorisation tell us about global balance of power and what is the perspective of the people classified? In the language concert «ESPACE SCHENGEN» two actors, a singer and an electro musician dissect the concept of the foreigner in Switzerland and in Europe. They tell us of the boundaries that are set by language in the frontierless Schengen area.
Laura de Weck’s work always focuses on language: its reduction, its rhythm and its musicality. With «ESPACE SCHENGEN», she presents a mixture of stage play and concert. Political slogans become pop songs and court rulings become poems.
