Nothing To Hide
«Suffering has an audience and we are the consumers of violence in the form of a spectacle.»
The starting point for «Nothing To Hide» was the essay «Regarding the Pain of Others» by Susan Sontag as well as a study of news on the Internet. Created ten years ago in the United States, the programme «Naked News» spread to almost the entire world. The principle is simple but successful: the presenters strip off while reading the news. The combination of the two elements (striptease and news) that normally do not come together leads to a spectacular and pornographic representation of reality.
In «Nothing To Hide», shocking news of violence, terror, war, death and suffering becomes a bizarre media landscape. Not only is what we experience reduced to its entertainment value, but the feelings of others also merely serve the spectacle. The audience is confronted with a visionary show that draws its inspiration from the way in which the modern media treat reality.
PiccoliProduction was founded in 2007 by Simone Blaser and Bruno Catalano. All their works deal with the phenomena of trivialisation of reality and the role the entertainment business plays in society and politics.
