The Last Adventures

Forced Entertainment & Tarek Atoui

We see giant sea monsters, a chorus of the dead, dancing trees, marching robots, a band of soldiers made out of cardboard and a cast of characters seemingly adrift from the pages of a fairy tale. Sounds swarm and storm like a war in the air. Electronic noise, instrument samples and voices entangle and unravel again: We are on a battlefield of a story. «The Last Adventures» is a piece about memory, mixing folk tales, science fiction, epic myths and novelettes. The performers are part and parcel of an ever changing suite of scenes, dances and pursuits. In front of our very eyes they transform a futuristic robot battlefield into an underground lake. Here and there recognisable characters surface, situations and text fragments emerge onstage from the ruins of familiar stories, only to disappear in the very next moment.

«The Last Adventures» is a collaboration of the internationally acclaimed performance collective Forced Entertainment and the Lebanese sound artist Tarek Atoui. Atoui presents his works in the exhibitions at places such as New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York (2010); Haus Der Kunst, Munich (2010), Performa 11, NYC (2011), dOCUMENTA 13 (2012), Serpentine Gallery, London (2012) and Bonniers Konsthall, Stockholm (2012 - 13).
