Pamphlet gegen das goldene Kalb der Händler im Hosenladen
Georg Keller Unternehmungen (GKU)
Buying trousers: The final product we hold in our hands has come a long way. The cotton was harvested in Uzbekistan, the yard goods were fabricated in India, the finish was done in Bangladesh. The slacks are then received in the port of Rotterdam, sent to Hungary to be packaged, and, finally, loaded onto a truck to be transported to Switzerland. Mileage: 17’400km.
We have become an intersection within the global network, our actions are part of a complex and interlaced chain of reactions. We have lost oversight: everything is connected and the individual becomes smaller and smaller until s/he vanishes in that net.

«Pamphlet gegen das goldene Kalb der Händler im Hosenladen» (Pamphlet against the Golden Calf of traders at the trouser shop) projects the shadows of this phenomenon onto the scenic space and turns to marginalised people who haven’t succeeded in becoming a compatible interface: a writer on his way to an award ceremony. A seamstress whose product is losing value in the shop. A hypochondriac who talks about his medical studies. They are all tested for their ISO norm capacity under glaring neon light.
Georg Keller Unternehmungen (GKU) «a brand like a friend» act as a dummy concern in a world in which the difference between real and staged situations becomes smaller and smaller. GKU specialise in the effects of an accelerated, globalised and economised society on people and the environment. On the way, a diverse artistic enterprise has formed, a Gesamtkunstwerk, oscillating somewhere between the visual and performing arts.
