Love & Happiness

Phil Hayes / Christophe Jaquet

How do men express love? In Love & Happiness five men sing and talk about just that. They make confessions, tell stories and negotiate their disagreements. Being seen requires a certain amount of courage and authenticity.
In his book «How Music Works» David Byrne describes a phenomenon related to the reception of pop music in which the audience wishes to make a relation between the song and the personal feelings and experience of the musician. One asks if he or she «really» experienced this or that. Or if what he sings is a «true story». That is why Love & Happiness is a project which explores the peformative authenticity and authorship. What exactly do the words «true» and «real» mean – and does it matter in the first place?
Love & Happiness is a collaboration between the director, performer and musician Phil Hayes from Zürich (First Cut Productions, Forced Entertainment, Simone Aughterlony) and the performer and musician Christophe Jaquet (Velma) from Lausanne.
