Ensemble Nadar
In the framework of the Festival «Tage für Neue Musik» that will take place from 13 – 16 November, Gessnerallee presents a concert of contemporary music and performative setting by the Belgian Ensemble Nadar, a piece for instruments, video, live electronics, game controller and megaphone. In GENERATION KILL (2012) by Belgian Stefan Prins three instrumentalists are «played» by three game controllers, the smart piece EXIT TO ENTER (2013) by Michael Beil quotes and further develops the wonderful experimental film L'HOMME ORCHESTRE (1900) by Georges Méliès. Ensemble, live video and tape playfully explore the film.
The two works of the young Danish composer Simon Steen-Andersen can do without video, yet they also feature diversifications of the purely instrumental. In different ways this happens in the piece SOLO FOR VIOLIN AND WHAMMY-PEDAL on the one side and in the ensemble piece ON AND OFF AND TO AND FRO on the other side, the latter being for three instruments and three megaphone players.
Named after the French multi-disciplinary adventurer, photographer, spy and caricaturist Gaspard-Félix Tournachon, the Nadar Ensemble was founded in 2006 in Antwerpen and has taken its firm place within this recent scene. In intense collaboration with the composer, the concert and representational forms are constantly reflected upon and expanded.
