Pflege und Verpflegung - Caregiving Caretakers
A patient dies in geriatric care. Her fortune goes to the Eastern European care giver. The family of the deceased files a suit: they reproach the emigrant fraud and revenge for the bad labour conditions. In parallel, an academic research team and an insurance company investigate the case. Together they create a turmoil of family tragedy and management techniques, taboos and moral expectations.
While the post-industrial societies become disproportionally old they not only run out of pension money. Scandal-worthy news comes from the Alzheimer avalanche. Care giving remains a low task and is delegated – to women and «threshold countries» with assumed motherliness.
«Pflege und Verpflegung – Caregiving Caretakers» brings today’s care-emergency to a head in order to euphorically liberate care out of the hands of efficiency control. As an additional actor, the trace of the English surtitles get entangled. After all: Who else could remain sovereign in this crisis, if not the language in which old age is dealt with?
In German with English surtitles.
