From A to B via C

Alexandra Bachzetsis

In Alexandra Bachzetsis’ latest work, we observe a training and instruction room: it does not matter if we learn complex ballet steps, if we follow a Beyoncé choreography with the help of an online tutorial or express ourselves in whatever language – it appears we can change into whomever we like. «From A to B via C» follows instructional steps that fulfil our wish to be part of something, to communicate and to bring in our own identity.
As an image of perfection, Diego Velázquez’ famous interpretation of The Rokeby Venus as well as the photographical elaboration by Helmut Newton mark the centre of the performance. Commissioned by Tate Modern London, the Biennal of Moving Images Geneva and Fundatión Jumex Arte Contemporáneo Mexico City, the work is a multi-layered choreography in which movement, observation and reflection are conscious acts, translated from one dancer-body to the other. The performance is developed for two different spaces: for theatres and for museums, considering their specific architecture.
