The Austrian farm boy Simon Mayer who swept us off our feet last winter with his solo «SungBengSitting» is back with a group piece. It is about the cosmos of traditions, folk dances and folksy music – the context Simon Mayer grew up in. In an experiential way the four performers and musicians use traditional Alpine live music, various group dances and rituals. They liberate them from conservatisms and conventions and they establish a new kind of fusion made of artistic reinterpretations and temporary social interpretations of meanings. Beyond categorising and pigeonholing the «Sons of Sissy» live up to their name: they move from being a strange folk music quartet to an experimental but playful ritual-dance-combo all while radically deconstructing traditional male role models.
