The Notebook
«The Notebook» is a thrilling parable about a lost childhood in the context of war. Based on the award-winning novel «Le Grand Cahier» by the Hungarian-Swiss author Ágota Kristóf, this piece by Forced Entertainment tells the story of two boys who are evacuated and brought to their grandmother who lives in the countryside during the second world war.
In a shattered world full of cruelty and opportunism the nameless twins – themselves rather strange and dysfunctional outsiders – struggle for moral integrity which they seek to achieve through a strict code of conduct.
In Tim Etchells’ direction, the bold and reduced language of the author is the starting point for an engaging performance set between the grim world war and a subversive humour and in which the two protagonists Robin Arthur and Richard Lowdon tell their story: a creepy pairing of two figures trapped in one voice.
