Adolf Hitler: Mein Kampf, Band 1 & 2

Rimini Protokoll (Haug & Wetzel)

In german language with english surtitles

Rimini Protokoll traces back Adolf Hitler’s diatribe and seeks to figure out what the myth of «Mein Kampf» is actually made of.
«Mein Kampf» by Adolf Hitler was first published in 1925/26 with a million books printed until the end of the war. For decades this propaganda piece has carried the aura of a «forbidden book». Therefore it has a certain appeal. At the end of 2015 the copyrights which are administered by the Freistaat Bavaria will expire. The debate about the possibility and the format of a new publication of the book has long begun – despite the fact that it can be bought used and that it is available online, and that it furthermore has quite a stable outlet in many countries.
Can or should the book be published in Germany again and thereby be available on the Swiss book market again? Who would buy it; who would want to read it? And what is the force of a symbolic ban?

Haug and Wetzel work under the label Rimini Protokoll in varying constellations, they are among the most prestigious theatre producers in the German speaking world. In 2011 the complete works of Rimini Protokoll was awarded the Silver Lion by the Theatre Biennale of Venice. At the Gessnerallee the company together with 100 inhabitants of Zurich has performed «100% Zürich» to a sold out theatre.
