Sketches/Notebook

Meg Stuart / Damaged Goods

With «Sketches/Notebook» Meg Stuart has created one of the most thrilling contemporary happenings of choreography. Twelve performers, visual artists and a musician share a space and create a vibrant world of light, music, gesture and objects surrounding the audience. A choreography of rough sketches is, in Stuart’s interpretation, means maximal risk and critical reflection at the same time. She introduces personas with fantastical costumes into the experimental space among the audience, they are searching for something with great effort, they encircle something so large the eye cannot seize it. Thereby, a behaviour appears that would be called insecurity and inner turmoil in everyday life. In the performance on stage, however, these actions are material, just like the moving sparkling stones. Here Stuart reveals what haunts our society today: «We have lost our insecurities, but we haven’t found the courage to try other forms of society.»
