Notturnino; Set and Reset/Reset

/ (Great Britain) SOLD OUT

Candoco Dance Company

This company, which is one of the top names in Europe's contemporary dance scene, has a programme that combines two different artistic voices. What both of them have in common though, is that they point the way into the future in their respective epochs. Candoco has revived Trisha Brown's Set and Reset/Reset, a masterpiece of American postmodern dance, which fascinates audiences with rhythmically flowing, constantly reshaping formations. In Notturnino, Thomas Hauert even lets his protagonists improvise during the performance, on the basis of certain rules and specifications. This piece is inspired by the soundtrack of the documentary film "Il bacio di Tosca", about the retirement home for musicians that Giuseppe Verdi founded. The result is a touching, always slightly floating dialogue about human vulnerability, ageing and vanity. Both of the works in the programme play with the enhanced possibilities that arise from the inclusive nature of this ensemble, because Candoco Dance Company incorporates dancers with and without disability in equal measure.

«We can simply watch the perpetual motion, the slipknot formations, the off-the-cuff accents and accidents – and marvel.»
