Advanced Chemistry, Freundeskreis, Absolute Beginner: are names associated with a kind of music that provided Stephan Stock and Christopher Kriese the moment for forming an identity in the 1990s. They were young, and German rap had a message that politicized them.
And where do we stand today? In 2017, more than twenty years after the first German rap tracks, young people have grown up, rap has become the all-embracing phenomenon of commerce. So the Theater der Peinlichkeit [Theater of Embarrassment] packs their no longer so youthful beer bellies in baggy jeans and starts again from the beginning. Kriese and Stock want to fulfil their dream: to be rappers someday.
