Under the Influence
3-part Performanceseries

In 2018 Phil Hayes will be creating and presenting three small-scale residency based performance projects in the Südbühne of the Gessnerallee. Each time Phil will be working in residence for three weeks and then showing the work with two performances. The series of works will reflect on Phil's history of collaborative creation with regard to influence. Phil will be collaborating with Spanish performance-maker and artist Maria Jerez and with Zurich musician Sarah Palin. For his third residency, Phil will be returning to solo work, but exploring the idea of influence and encounters. The three performance projects will lead to the creation of a small reflective book, also titled «Under the Influence».

Phil Hayes and Maria Jerez, two artists and performance makers with very different approaches to making work, have crossed paths on various projects on and off over the past ten years. Both questioning their own practise and asking what still interests them about the very idea of what theatre is or can be, they have agreed to work together on a short collaboration to investigate what it is they find interesting in the fakeness of theatre and performing.
