The collective Markus&Markus is part of the so-called re-unified German majority [i.e., non-migrant] society. For Markus&Markus, theater is not only an opportunity to view a set of themes from the outside, but also to let something emerge. Zwischen den Säulen [Between the Columns] documents the journey into one of the Abrahamic religions: Islam. The piece is simultaneously fiction and reality, both status quo and utopia. It does not explain the world, it represents a world.
Zwischen den Säulen is a travelogue of a scavenger hunt with an unknown destination, where the group follows the clues in a game for which they don’t know the rules.
After their great success in 2015 with Ibsen:Gespenster [Ibsen:Ghosts], which since then has since toured around the world, Markus&Markus are finally back in Zurich!
