El Conde de Torrefiel is a Barcelona-based artist duo: Swiss director and dramaturge Tanya Beyler and Spanish director Pablo Gisbert. The work of the young collaboration is characterized by a hybrid form of theater that shifts between short story, choreography, and tableaux vivant. Through extraordinary aesthetics, which are poetically as well as intellectually impressive, El Conde de Torrefiel has become renowned within a very short time and is being invited to the most important European festivals. The duo’s performance Guerrilla was performed in 2017 at the Gessnerallee and in 2018 La Plaza was presented at the Zürcher Theater Spektakel.
«Kultur» is a performative installation based on only one tableau vivant of a gradually escalating situation. Listening through headphones to the inner monologue and reflections of an author searching for words and themes, the spectator assumes the point of view of an absolute voyeur regarding the moving image of an unquestionably explicit scene in the realistic setting of a casting. Going far beyond theatrical conventions, «Kultur» intelligently and disturbingly analyzes the contemporary desire for arousal and its production – even outside of art.
