Kind

Peeping Tom

Kind [Child] is the culmination of a trilogy that deals with hidden feelings in families. It started in 2014 with Vader [Father], a piece choreographed by Franck Chartier. Moeder [Mother] followed in 2016 with the choreography of Gabriela Carrizo. Now for Kind (2019), the two choreographers will work together.

Children have always been present in the universe of Peeping Tom, but never in such a direct way. Until now, they represented the parents’ fear of loss: the adult perspective. In Kind this is reversed: the plot is propelled onto the world through the eyes of the child, through the child’s fears and needs. The point of view changes as the child grows up and develops further during puberty with all the inherent insecurities, doubts, compulsions, and physical changes. The location of the plot is the inner and outer world of children: how do they express their fears without fully developed inner armor? How do they develop under the influence of their parents? What if the parents are absent? Such traumatic situations numb the sense of one’s own body.

The changes and transformation in time and space, movement, and scenic image that are typical of Peeping Tom show the dynamic inner life of children and adolescents. One basis for this approach is the research work carried out by Peter Adriaenssens and Boris Cyrulnik about human resilience in extreme situations.
