Angstpiece
For organizational reasons this show has to be canceled.
Agoraphobia is a so-called anxiety disorder that can lead to avoidance behavior or social withdrawal. Possible symptoms include especially great fear of crowds and open public places. Realized in collaboration with Anta Helena Recke, in Angstpiece [Anxiety Piece] Julia*n Meding will apply drama therapy methods to overcome her agoraphobia, at least for the duration of the performance. While renegotiating the legitimacy of irrational fear and giving in to her desire to have a panic attack, she challenges the ruling practice of disease mongering: What privileges have to exist in order to get such a diagnosis in the first place?
Angstpiece is the second collaboration of Anta Helena Recke and Julia*n Meding and was invited to the 2019 Radikal jung theater festival as one of the most remarkable productions by young artists. The two are interested in the conditionality of body shapes; private life and taking action within reigning structures of power; and, the phenomena of presence in the Internet and executing subversive strategies. Their first mutual work Lovepiece, a performative study for two people and a metal scaffold, which they developed in 2015 as part of the Treibstoff Theatertage Basel theater festival, toured for performances at the Auawirleben Festival Bern, the Vierte Welt and Ballhaus Ost venues in Berlin, and Münchner Kammerspiele in Munich.
