The four performers all claim to be the fictitious figure of Mimosa Ferrera and they compete for the best representation of her. Mimosa is a rock star, drag queen and ballerina all at the same time – a colourful persona beyond genders. Inspired by a documentary film about Voguing «Paris is burning» a sexy evening between pop and avant-garde is created, a show featuring Prince, Kate Bush and Shirley Bassey, a show about the wish and the impossibility to be someone else.
Voguing came to be general pop knowledge in 1990 with Madonna's hit «Vogue». The dance form dates from the early 1960's when it was created in Harlem. It was mostly practiced by gays, transvestites and transsexuals of Afro- or Latin-American origin. The dancers mimicked types and poses from the worlds of fashion and luxury and used social and sexual cliches that dominated them. Around the same time, a group of artists founded the Judson Dance Theater on Washington Square, leading a movement that would be known for the beginning of postmodern dance. Their common denominator was the rejection of traditional modes of representation of the body and their interest for minimal everyday movements which could also be done by untrained dancers.
