synekism / groove space

Sebastian Matthias

26 - 27 September: synekism / 6 - 11 November: maneuvers

We are an everyday part of an urban perma-choreography. Diverse, highly sensitive physical capacities allow us urban dwellers to react to the different dynamics of our environment.

«groove space» is a research and performance series, starting out as a community project in Berlin. From there it travels to Zurich, Hamburg, Freiburg, Düsseldorf, Tokyo and Basel in the following months. Which features are necessary for an art space to challenge the street skills of the audience so that they are not handed over together with the jacket at the cloak room?
The rehearsals are open to local artists and spectators; together with the research team around Sebastian Matthias the piece is re-elaborated again and again in a collaborative method. At the Gessnerallee the group and performance artist Nino Baumgartner are going to research the Groove of the city for six weeks. They are going to present this local version called «maneuvers» in November.
As a starting point, «synekism» – an adaptation of Groove Berlin’s version – is going to be staged. The choreographic results of this first partial research project are going to be shown within Eva Berendes’ urban spatial installation, and soundscapes by Tamer Fahri Özgönenc from the Berlin club scene will frame the piece.
